TREATMENT

Wood is a beautiful natural product. Unfortunately it is susceptible to attack from many forms of fungus and insect, and this reduces its serviceability dramatically. For over 50 years various forms of treatment have been available for timber, and we have always moved with the times to offer the most up-to-date treatment for the timber products we produce. We have a large timber treatment facility at our Midgley site, treating not only our own manufactured timber and products, but also timber for other local merchants. We use a tried and tested product from CSI, called permawood ACQ 1900.

To Ensure Safe and Effective Use:

• Wood on which any minor woodworking has to be carried out after treatment must be re-treated with two liberal brush applications of Permawood End Preservative. Rip-sawing, thicknessing or planing is not permitted unless the wood is re-treated in accordance with specification.

• Treated wood should be re-dried to a maximum moisture content of 22% before applying any metal fittings. If treated wood is to be used in conditions where it can become damp, stainless steel or hot dip galvanised mild steel fittings should be used. (even with untreated wood under damp conditions corrosion of mild steel or galvanised steel may occur) precautions should be taken to avoid direct contact of aluminium sheeting with treated wood.

• When dry Permawood can be painted, stained or varnished provided the recommendations of the manufacturer of the finish are followed. Surface deposits should be cleaned off by sandpaper or brushing before application of finish.

•Surfaces to be glued should be lightly sanded prior to adhesive application. The general use and moisture content shall be in accordance with recommendations by the adhesive manufacturer. Typically moisture content should be below 22%.

• Disposal of Permawood treated wood. Off-cuts or unwanted timber treated with Permawood fall under the classification of minor entries, as set out in the regulations and classification of waste 2004 and the consolidated european waste catalogue. This means that any such waste can be disposed of in ordinary landfill sites.

• Do not use Permawood treated wood as barbecue fuel, domestic fuel or for animal bedding or litter. This information on this document is provided in good faith. However, the supplier cannot accept responsibility for any liability arising from the use of the product
