tree of the year 2025 winner

The Woodland Trust have crowned Glasgow's Argyle Street ash as the UK’s Tree of the Year!

This year’s contest celebrated the role trees have played in our cultural history, shining a spotlight on those that serve as local landmarks across the UK. Over 30,000 people took part in this year’s vote to crown the UK’s Tree of the Year.

Standing tall for over 170 years, this tree is deeply rooted in Glasgow’s social history — having withstood the Clydeside Blitz, the rise and fall of industry, and now standing strong in the face of ash dieback. This eye-catching ash won the title of Tree of the Year with 27% of the vote!

The tree was the first in Glasgow to be protected by a tree preservation order, and is known locally as The Lone Tree of Finnieston or The Only Tree on Argyle Street.

As this year’s winner, the Argyle Street ash will now go on to represent the UK in the European Tree of the Year 2026 contest!
