Senior Retail Assistant

Wentworth, South Yorkshire
Full time position
Good rate of pay

We currently have vacancy for a Senior Retail Assistant based at Wentworth Fencing Centre. We are looking for someone who is outgoing and confident, with excellent customer service skills. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years retail experience with some supervisory responsibilities and good knowledge of the DIY / garden centre / timber industry. Basic computer skills are essential. Full time position, which includes some weekend shifts on a rota basis.

The position is ideal for someone looking to move into a management position.

A varied job awaits where no two days will be the same.

 

Main Duties

  • Ensure customers are met and greeted, offering help and assistance.
  • Checking off goods loaded into customer vehicles.
  • Cash handling and sales processing
  • Processing sales/quotes/orders/delivery notes/ invoices through a till and/or accounting programme.
  • Dealing with telephone and website based enquiries
  • Work closely with colleagues as part of a small professional team.
  • Attend relevant training sessions/courses stipulated by the company
  • Follow Health and Safety rules and regulations
  • Other comparable duties within the business as/when required

 

Key Skills

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to working using your own initiative or as part of a team
  • The ability to liaise with your Supervisor / Manager
  • Good numeracy skills – ability to accurately calculate sizes and convert metric/imperial measurements
  • Follow management instructions

 

Required Qualifications / Training

Essential

  • A good level of education including GCSE or similar in Maths and English
  • Previous experience in a retail environment
  • Previous supervisory experience

 

Desirable

  • Clean full driving licence
  • First Aid Qualification
  • Knowledge/understanding of the DIY / garden centre / timber industry

Bench Joinery - Apprenticeships

We are looking for an apprentice to learn all aspects of Joinery and to assist in the progression of the business, whilst providing excellent customer services and adhering to all Health & Safety policies & procedures.

Apprenticeship specification

Weekly wage
£138.75

Working week
Monday to Friday 7:30am – 4:00pm

Total hours per week: 37.50

Apprenticeship duration
24 months (2 positions)
12 months (1 position)

The successful applicant will be involved with the following duties:

  • Work on bespoke furniture
  • Furniture and bench joinery
  • Work in a workshop environment
  • The manufacture of high quality furniture and accessories
  • Workshop cleaning duties, ensure a clean and safe working area
  • Using a range of portable machine (Drills, Sanders, Routers)
  • Using a range of stationery machinery
  • Able to follow technical drawings and plans
  • The ability to pay close attention to detail and make accurate measurements

 

Further duties to include:

  • Using the tools and machinery provided to manufacture high quality joinery items
  • Operating hand tools, air tools and other machinery safely and efficiently including nail guns
  • Ensuring each finished product is to the correct product specification and the quality of the finished product accurately reflects the company standards.
  • Maintenance of all tools and workstation
  • Clean down and maintain working area, including cleaning, greasing and oiling, sweeping and removal of sawdust debris
  • Changing blades in a safe manner as required
  • Receive customer/stock orders on a daily basis via job sheets and ensure customer requirements are met
  • Report progress on jobs sheets as necessary to ensure that job status is known throughout the company
  • Completion of any/all relevant paperwork, documenting all repairs/maintenance
  • Respond in a positive manner to deal with any issues regarding quality control problems
  • Follow Health and Safety rules and regulations
  • Attend relevant training sessions/courses stipulated by the company
  • Other comparable duties within the business as/when required
  • Assisting other team members as/when required
  • General joinery department house keeping including tidying, sweeping and general housekeeping roles.

 

Apprentices must show commitment to the following:

  • To achieve apprenticeship framework (Functional Skills, NVQ and Technical Certificate) within the specified time frame
  • Attend the apprenticeship induction programme
  • Attend all of the training sessions for the programme whenever necessary
  • Undertake any other required development work as part of the apprenticeship programme as requested
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate by senior staff

Forklift Truck Drivers
