WHAT IS TREATED TIMBER?

Treated timber is usually defined as timber which has been through a process involving preservatives and pressure, to protect its exterior and prepare it for use outdoors. In some climates hardwood timbers may be used externally in their untreated form, but softwood timber will succumb to rot if it is used untreated outdoors.

Treated timber is frequently described as pressure treated timber, which refers to the part of the treatment process involving forcing preservatives into the timber under pressure. Treated timber, is first dried to lower its moisture content before it is fed into a vacuum cylinder where the wood is flooded with preservative.

TRUE EXPERTS IN OUR FIELD.

At Earnshaws we have been growing, cutting, sourcing and treating timber for generations. Our treated timber range is one of the most comprehensive in the region.

Starting back in 1860 Job Earnshaw worked falls of timber near Wakefield, founding a small sawmill at Midgley. While the company has adapted and changed over the years, we have built on years of timber merchant experience to be true experts in our field.

From stock, we supply a wide range of treated timber products including fence posts, sleepers, pales, featheredge boards, rails, timber cladding and structurally graded material. We also offer larger section beam timbers for architectural use and bespoke runs of sawn timber.
